Strings of Soul
Strings of Soul:
The depth and bass of the sarode sounds are indeed a great medium to portray the in-depth emotions (bhav), delicate aesthetics (rasa) and meditative nature of Indian Raga Music. The sympathetic strings are like those vivacious undercurrent of energy that etches the air with plethora of varied sonic colors that can be contemplative or joyous, or painful, or romantic — often overwhelming, resonating the Soul.
The Instrument:
The sarode is one of the most popular and prominent stringed instrument, used in North Indian Classical Music that is known for its deep, rich, introspective sound with sympathetic strings that give it a resonant, reverberant quality. This fretless instrument can produce the continuous slides between notes known as meend (glissandi), which are very important in Indian music. Sarode is believed to have evolved as a combination of the ancient chitravina, the medieval Indian rabab and modern sursingar.
